May 5th, 2008

I’ve just released my latest new website, opinels.co.uk,
really cool clean design, a little online store based on wordpress which is no mean feat!! :)

Payments are handled by paypal, with the AJAX powered fat free shopping cart utilised as well, as per my release of socklover earlier this week.

This is the latest of a few new planned releases using the wordpress ’simple store’ platform and template that i have hacked together!

Go check it out - opinels.co.uk - buy opinel knives online.

really cool sock website

May 1st, 2008
really cool new website has launched called sock lover…really nice clean e commerce design based on wordpress! :)

Based in the UK, and features brands such as pantherella socks and richard james socks - head over there for a look! Really is quite an acheivement to hack wordpress into a shop! :) Payments are handled through the ‘fat free cart’ solution, and paypal, rather than the full shopping cart solution available as a plugin for WP…personally i think that this makes the whole thing neater, simpler and much lighter weight - a good effort!

15feeds.com launches

November 17th, 2006

A new site offering aggregated rss news feeds from an array of popular sites has just launched, called 15feeds - 6 subject areas, 15 top news feeds in each - looks nice, and is a useful bookmark or startpage! Designed around CSS, and completely free of tables throughout, the layout is easy and clear to read, nice dark colour scheme…and very easy to use and navigate!

There is also a good selection of 15feeds.com images to use when linking to the site. All in all my favorite of the week.

Have a look for yourself.

The ebvk blog launches

October 18th, 2006

The owner of portbags.com, ebvk Limited has undergone a major redesign which is now complete  -  so there is a spanky clean new site! Version 3.1 of ebvk.com is CSS powered, with a tableless layout to ensure maximum browser compatibility as well as xhtml and css valid pages. Backed up by a little php, the site is easy on the eye, easy to use and also easy to update and redesign in furture.
As an addition to the static part of the site, there is now a blog/CMS in place to allow staff/geeks to add content as and when they like. This is backed by the Nucleus CMS, which has been heavily modified to blend seamlessly with the rest of the site.
Have a look at the ebvk site here, and view the blog here.

Spammers

September 22nd, 2006

In the last week, every crappy spammer out there seems to have discovered the gadget blog….am now so f**ked off with emails about the 100 spam posts per day I could happily shoot the cretins that do it. Just piss off! I mean, don’t they even realise that the links are all rel=”nofollow” anyway, so there is NO benefit in what they’re doing in any case!! Christ!!

Anyway, net result is that I’ve turned off comments on all the posts. As usual, the few spoil it for the rest of us.

Hopefully all spammers will die from ingesting too much f**cking P*entermine.

Samsung ‘Blackberry’ SGH-i320 announced

July 4th, 2006

Wowser. just seen pics of this little baby, new from Samsung mobile. An obvious competitor to the blackberry and other handheld email devices, it supports push email as per b/berry, as well as audio playback, bluetooth and various other stuff the guys at RIM should have put in the blackberry last time round. Heck, I want one. Apparently, I’m not going to have to wait long, as the company is claiming a european release will take place this month (JULY). Its thin, its light, it looks good. Could be the one to replace my blackberry with….
samsung blackberry killer

The tri-band GSM handset supports EDGE and GPRS and runs Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone operating system. Other features include a 1.3-megapixel camera, video recording in MPEG4/H.263, audio playback for MP3, AAC, AAC+, Windows Media Audio, WAV and Ogg files, Bluetooth, USB and voice recognition. The screen is a 2.2in model with QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) resolution and like many high-end Samsung phones it has a document viewer.

The i320 weighs 95g and measures 111 x 59 x 11.5mm. It has 120MB of internal memory and a microSD card slot for external memory. no details on price yet.

New Mr Tourette book announced!

July 4th, 2006

Okay, so not a gadget, but gets a mention for being sooooo funny…in an offensive, dry sort of way…those clever chaps at modern toss have today announced that they are in the process of finishing the fourth in the series of ‘modern toss’ adult cartoon books…its to be released in around 6 weeks, but is avaiable for pre order now, priced at just £4.99 + P&P.

If like me you enjoyed the previous three in the series, then get over there quick, as anyone pre-ordering will get their name in the back-bonus!

Also announced in the same email was the shocker that the modern toss TV series begins on channel 4 in the UK a week today (11th july), at 11pm I think from memory, but check the listings yourself and don’t blame me if I got it wrong! ;)

My favorite character has got to be Mr. Tourette, master signwriter, but the one that seemed to translate best to TV in the Pilot was ‘Alan’ - a truly nasty little animated individual reminiscent of certain people i encounter. Class.

Funny, offensive (don’t watch or buy the book if easily offended!!), dry, and animated with all the ability of a five year old…but a firm favorite if you want to wet yourself laughing :D

New Port Lapdesk released

July 4th, 2006

Finally, Port Designs have begun shipping the ‘coolfan‘ - a new form of lapdesk with a built-in usb powered fan to reduce the temperature of your laptop!

Portbags now has them in stock after weeks of waiting, available for immediate shipping.

The device itself is lightweight and compact, suitable for up to 15.4″ screen laptops. It can be used like the original Port Lapdesk, on your lap or desk, but also has feet which can be used to increase the keyboard angle, thus making this more comfortable to type.

Given the temperature today is a warm 33c, the quiet little usb powered fan now underneath the center of my thinkpad is a welcome break from the usual warm legs I usually experience while using it on my lap…it also doesn’t seem to have any detriment to battery life, that I’ve noticed anyway…its also stopped the cooling fan from running so continually with lap-mounted use…so all in all, a useful part of the laptop users kit - the Coolfan is almost flat as well, allowing it to be stowed inside a laptop bag alongside the machine itself.

Get yours today!! :)
