Samsung ‘Blackberry’ SGH-i320 announced

Tuesday, July 4th, 2006

Wowser. just seen pics of this little baby, new from Samsung mobile. An obvious competitor to the blackberry and other handheld email devices, it supports push email as per b/berry, as well as audio playback, bluetooth and various other stuff the guys at RIM should have put in the blackberry last time round. Heck, I want one. Apparently, I’m not going to have to wait long, as the company is claiming a european release will take place this month (JULY). Its thin, its light, it looks good. Could be the one to replace my blackberry with….

The tri-band GSM handset supports EDGE and GPRS and runs Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone operating system. Other features include a 1.3-megapixel camera, video recording in MPEG4/H.263, audio playback for MP3, AAC, AAC+, Windows Media Audio, WAV and Ogg files, Bluetooth, USB and voice recognition. The screen is a 2.2in model with QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) resolution and like many high-end Samsung phones it has a document viewer.

The i320 weighs 95g and measures 111 x 59 x 11.5mm. It has 120MB of internal memory and a microSD card slot for external memory. no details on price yet.

New Mr Tourette book announced!

Tuesday, July 4th, 2006

Okay, so not a gadget, but gets a mention for being sooooo funny…in an offensive, dry sort of way…those clever chaps at modern toss have today announced that they are in the process of finishing the fourth in the series of ‘modern toss’ adult cartoon books…its to be released in around 6 weeks, but is avaiable for pre order now, priced at just £4.99 + P&P.

If like me you enjoyed the previous three in the series, then get over there quick, as anyone pre-ordering will get their name in the back-bonus!

Also announced in the same email was the shocker that the modern toss TV series begins on channel 4 in the UK a week today (11th july), at 11pm I think from memory, but check the listings yourself and don’t blame me if I got it wrong! ;)

My favorite character has got to be Mr. Tourette, master signwriter, but the one that seemed to translate best to TV in the Pilot was ‘Alan’ - a truly nasty little animated individual reminiscent of certain people i encounter. Class.

Funny, offensive (don’t watch or buy the book if easily offended!!), dry, and animated with all the ability of a five year old…but a firm favorite if you want to wet yourself laughing :D

New Port Lapdesk released

Tuesday, July 4th, 2006

Finally, Port Designs have begun shipping the ‘coolfan‘ - a new form of lapdesk with a built-in usb powered fan to reduce the temperature of your laptop!

Portbags now has them in stock after weeks of waiting, available for immediate shipping.

The device itself is lightweight and compact, suitable for up to 15.4″ screen laptops. It can be used like the original Port Lapdesk, on your lap or desk, but also has feet which can be used to increase the keyboard angle, thus making this more comfortable to type.

Given the temperature today is a warm 33c, the quiet little usb powered fan now underneath the center of my thinkpad is a welcome break from the usual warm legs I usually experience while using it on my lap…it also doesn’t seem to have any detriment to battery life, that I’ve noticed anyway…its also stopped the cooling fan from running so continually with lap-mounted use…so all in all, a useful part of the laptop users kit - the Coolfan is almost flat as well, allowing it to be stowed inside a laptop bag alongside the machine itself.

Get yours today!! :)
